ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Saturday directed authorities to take measures to ensure the safe return of Pakistani nationals stranded in Istanbul.

He directed that exclusive flights be arranged for the return of Pakistani citizens who were stuck in the Turkish city of Istanbul following an unsuccessful coup attempt in the country overnight.

The prime minister instructed the Ministry for Foreign Affairs that the Pakistani embassy staff present in Istanbul should look after the Pakistanis present in the city and to make sure that they return to the country safe and sound.

According to a representative of the Pakistani High Commission in Turkey, around 200 Pakistani nationals were stuck at the Istanbul airport.
