KARACHI - Two eyewitnesses on Wednesday identified six Rangers officials among seven before the trial court during identity parade in extra-judicial killing case. The police produced the accused including Sub-Inspector Bahadur Rehman, Lance Naik Liaquat Ali, Muhammad Mintar, Muhammad Tariq, Muhammad Afzal and Shahid Zafar and a private person Muhammad Afsar Khan before Judicial Magistrate (South) Nadeem Badar for the identification parade in the killing of a youth, Sarfaraz Shah, wherein two witnesses have identified the Rangers and a private person. The witnesses have recorded their statement saying that the arrested accused were involved in the murder of Sarfaraz Shah. The witnesses informed the court that accused Afsar Khan had handed over Sarfaraz Shah to the Rangers. Shahid Zafar was the Rangers official who killed Sarfaraz Shah. Witnesses further said that Sarfaraz Shah was pleading with the Rangers and after being shot he was begging for his life but nobody helped him. The witnesses informed the court that they were not aware if the deceased had committed a crime in the park. After recording the statements of the witnesses, the court adjourned the hearing. In the next hearing the accused will record their statements before the trial court. On the occasion, the family members of the slain youth were not present in the court. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) West Zone Sultan Khawaja brought the accused amid tight security. Later, the accused were produced before the administrative judge of Sindh High Court Justice Maqbool Baqar who extended their remand till June 17th. The investigation team produced the accused before the court and requested to extend their remand for further interrogation. The court granted their request. It must be noted here that after the suo motu notice of the incident taken by apex court, an investigation team was formed headed by the DIG. The police had amended the FIR against Rangers personnel and added Section-7 of Anti-Terrorists Act to it, so the case is now under trial in ATC also. Beside, the police had registered three different cases against the two of the Rangers Muhammad Afzal Khan and Shahid Zafar who were arrested including two by the government and one by the victims brother. In the first case registered by the government, the stance was taken that the accused tried to commit a robbery while the other case was registered against carrying illegal weapons. Meanwhile, the third case was registered on the complaint of victim Sarfrazs brother Salik Shah against the Rangers including Afzal Khan and Shahid Zafar. According to the prosecution, the deceased was killed in broad daylight and the incident of his killing at the hands of the Rangers came into the limelight when the video showing the incident was aired on news channels.
