The public have a plethora of complaints against the police, but they are seldom addressed as either the system takes too much time in processing those complaints or the issue is set aside through influence and pressure. The complainants seldom get their voices heard on a proper forum. There is a pertinent need to appoint a police ombudsman (mohtasib), who would look into these complaints. The presence of such an authority will ensure quick resolution to the problems faced by the citizens, while also establishing a citizen friendly complaint resolution mechanism into place.
