LAHORE An official who headed the police team, which staged a fake encounter and gunned down a 23-year-old youth in Nishtar Colony police area last week, has told the inquiry committee that he implemented orders of the seniors and killed the youth in fake encounter. Sub Inspector Muhammad Riaz appeared before the inquiry committee probing into the extrajudicial killing to record his statement on Wednesday. Police sources said that the official also told the committee that he contacted the top police officers after arresting the youth and disclosed to them that the arrested robber shot at and wounded a man on offering resistance during a shop-robbery attempt. According to the police official, the top officers ordered him to kill the 'guy in fake encounter. Five policemen including SI Muhammad Riaz have been arrested and are being interrogated in connection with the extrajudicial killing. The Chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Ijaz Chauhdry took suo moto notice of the incident. On Tuesday, Inspector General of Police, Chief Secretary, and Home Secretary Punjab appeared before the LHC in this case. The court has also directed the Punjab government to review of the postings of the newly appointed CCPO Ahmed Raza Tahir and his loyalist DIG (Operations) Ghulam Dogar.
