LAHORE The police have suddenly awaken from the deep sleep after the Karachi Rangers killing a youth, as the top cops of the City police have prepared a list of 17 top underworld dons to initiate crackdown against them, TheNation reliably learnt here. Action has been initiated against them after getting green signal from Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The CM was perturbed over the ever-increasing crime rate in the provincial metropolis since the appointment of former CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen but when some recordings were presented before him in which some of the most hardened criminals were demanding extortion from few relatives of a senior PML-N leader Ishaq Daar, a close aide of Nawaz Sharif. After that, Shahbaz Sharif directed them to prepare a comprehensive list of most-wanted criminals and initiate immediate action against them without any discrimination. They further said that the recent change in the high command of Lahore Police including replacement of Aslam Tareen and former DIG Operations Rao Sirdar Khan with current CCPO Ahmed Raza Tahir and DIG Ghulam Mahmood Dogar was also a major step of the CMs greater plan. Another reliable cop also claimed that on the other side, the relatives and accomplices of the underworld dons have started pressurising and intimidating the top cops with strict advices to restrain them from doing so. The names in the list include Khawaja Sharif alias Teefi Butt, Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt, Kashi alias Kashi Baba, Malik Muddasir alias Malika, Shahbaz Nut, Malik Rafiq alias Bora Pehlwan, Rana Qurban Numberdar, Sikander Butt alias Bahadura, Kala Dai Wala, Shaukat alias Shauki Changar, Usman Butt, Malik Ehsan, Abbas Baso, Humayoun alias Bhola, Mehmood alias Pomi and Khurram Iqbal alias Khurmi. He said some of the suspected dens of the hardened criminals including a 'Dera of notorious Parchi gambler in Sandah police precincts, a home of a renowned car dealer at Johar Town, a farmhouse at Bedian Road and other places have been raided during the last week. The criminal circles have been active and are using their political and bureaucratic links to save their skins. Insiders said some of the relatives of few dons had approached DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar and tried to convince him to avoid raiding or apprehending their relatives. Reportedly, the DIG replied, I am sorry, may be I am not against the common snatchers and strongly against those who commit crimes while sitting in their homes. Dogar told this scribe that how could he spare those who broke into the homes, commit dacoities-cum-rape, dacoities-cum-murder, kidnapping and killing the innocent and those who spray bullets on the innocent citizens and police officers. A tangible and strict action would be initiated against the criminals, he remarked. CCPO Ahmed Raza Tahir said other lists were being prepared to control the crime. He said the police department was established to guard the lives and properties of the citizens. They would be taken to their ultimate task, he added. To a query regarding Nishtar Colony police fake encounter, he said he would not spare those guilty police officers, who are habitual of staging such fake encounters.
