Mr. Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly said that the Bhurban Declaration to restore the superior judiciary within 30 days was not 'Hadees' and it could be resiled from or extended further. Mr. Zardari is perhaps not aware that even a promise has to be kept. It is more than 'Hadees' and according to Holy Quran it would be inquired about on the last Day of Judgment and had to be atoned for. For a Muslim, a promise with anyone is a sacred thing and one would not walk away from it due to some excuse or another. If one is not to fulfil a promise, it ought not be made in the first place. As such 30 days was enough time to fulfil the promise made in the declaration in respect of judges before the whole nation. Enmity of some people should not be made into an excuse to scuttle the Bhurban Declaration as it would not meet the needs of justice and Mr. Zardari's reputation would be tarnished. -DR M.
