KARACHI - The Command and Control centre established by the City Government to control traffic in Karachi with latest technology has started work on experimental basis. The C&C would compile all record of traffic activities at Signal Free Corridor-I and II. Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal on Thursday paid a visit to the Command and Control Centre along with the DCO Karachi Javed Hanif Khan. The Nazim on this occasion directed concerned officials to complete this centre at the earliest. He said that the city government was working in all sectors to provide such facilities to citizens in Karachi, which exists in other big and international cities of the world. The City Nazim observed that "Karachi is the only city in Pakistan where latest machinery and cameras have been installed to control the traffic. He expressed hope that the new system would help in controlling traffic besides monitoring the violation of municipal laws and acts of crime at all important corridors like it happened in other mega cities of the world. He said that this is the latest technology, which has been incorporated in Karachi, and it has already started work on experimental basis, however, he added; this will be formally inaugurated very soon. Nazim Karachi said that a modern research library was also being established with the C&C which would be equipped with unique books and study material. During a briefing on this occasion it was informed that a total of 54 latest cameras will be installed to run this new system out of which 26 cameras have already been fixed while the foreign experts would also review the Command & Control facility on Monday. It was also informed in the briefing that the centre will begin working fully within three months.
