Iran said on Saturday that it is to host a summit with the Afghan and Pakistani presidents, which is expected to discuss the rebuilding of war-shattered Afghanistan. The office of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not elaborate on the agenda for Tuesday's with Afghanistan's Hamid Karzai and Pakistan's Asif Ali Zardari, but said it was a "regional meeting." Zardari's spokeswoman was unreachable for comment and Karzai's office said it could not comment before Sunday. The gathering comes less than three months after the three leaders met in the Iranian capital Tehran for a regional economic summit, along with leaders of other neighbouring states. That summit pledged to help rebuild Afghanistan, and also the Gaza Strip after Israel's devastating offensive at the turn of the year.
