SIALKOT - People of Sialkot accorded a warm rosy welcome to the Mayor of Bolingbrook-Chicago (USA) Mr. Roger C. Claar upon his arrival here on Thursday.

All the main inter-city roads were decorated with colourful welcoming banners and national flags of Pakistan and the USA.

The people standing on both sides of the city roads showered road petals on the convoy of Mayor of Bolingbrook-USA. The people also raised slogans of "Pak-USA Friendship Zindabad".

The mayor witnessed several socio-economic and human development projects in Sialkot city undertaken by the Sialkot exporters on a self-help basis. On the occasion, Mr. Roger C. Claar highly hailed the self-help spirit of Sialkot exporters. The mayor spent a busy day in Sialkot.

Addressing the participants of a reception given in his honour by the Mayor of Sialkot Municipal Corporation Ch Tauheed Akhtar, Mr. Roger C. Claar revealed that the status of "sister cities" would also help to provide the same advanced municipal facilities to the local people at local level. He also inaugurated the official plaque of a local road in Sialkot city which was named "Bolingbrook Road". He appreciated the unique export culture of Sialkot besides hailing Sialkot's socio-economic development and the establishment of Sialkot International Airport built by Sialkot exporters on a self-help basis.

Later, Bolingbrook Mayor Roger C. Claar pledged to make all-out sincere efforts to promote cultural, social, and industrial activities between both "sister cities"-Sialkot-Pakistan and Bolingbrook-USA. He stated this while addressing an important meeting of Sialkot exporters held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). SCCI President Khawaja Masud Akhtar presided over the meeting. Senior Vice President Waqas Akram Awan and Vice President Aamir Hameed Bhatti also attended the meeting.

Mayor Roger C. Claar added that the status of the "sister cities" would help a lot to promote the bilateral cultural, social and industrial activities, besides establishing strong business-to-business and people-to-people contacts between the businessmen and the people of Sialkot-Punjab and Bolingbrook-Chicago. He stated that sincere efforts were being made to promote bilateral trade between industrial cities Sialkot-Pakistan and Bolingbrook-USA.

Addressing the meeting, SCCI President Khawaja Masud Akhtar said that both Bolingbrook and Sialkot had a lot in common. He said that both sister cities, having talented population, shared several common interests such as a uniform vision of growth and economic development and sustainable infrastructure for their residents. "We wish to learn from the experience of Bolingbrook-USA to implement system and growth vision to uplift the Sialkot city, business and living standard of the people", the SCCI president added. He suggested active engagements of the business community of both cities through the chambers of commerce in Bolingbrook-USA and Sialkot-Pakistan which could act as a base for exchanging information, and would promote trade and long-term relations between Bolingbrook and Sialkot.

In 2017, the local governments had officially announced the status of "sister cities" for Sialkot-Pakistan and Bolingbrook-USA.
