Islamabad-As the elected representatives have taken up the charge of the affairs of Capital Development Authority (CDA), the development work in the federal capital has taken momentum with installation of streetlights in sector D-12 in record time of just one month.

All major roads of sector D-12 have been illuminated after installation of streetlights while streetlights in remaining areas would be also made operational soon after completion of sewerage and drainage system work.

Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA Sheikh Anser Aziz said this yesterday while inspecting the progress of development work in sector D-12. On this occasion, Director Sectors Development CDA, Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Naqvi, local elected representatives and senior officers of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and CDA were also present.

Sheikh Anser Aziz said that delayed and improper decision making have not only impeded the development of the sectors but also resulted in cost escalation of development activities on the hand and multiplied issues of the affectees of Islamabad on the other. He said that sector D-12 was opened around three decades ago; however, due to missing priorities and delayed decision making, development work in the sectors could not be completed even today.

He said that re-initiation of development activities in the stalled sectors is his top priority and all genuine issues of affectees of these sectors would be amicably resolved to ensure their practical participation in future development of the city so that they could be made companions in the voyage of development and prosperity. He said that allottees of sector E-12 have been waiting to construct their homes on allotted plots for the last 25 years but due to delayed decision making, non-possession on the acquired land of the sector and missing priorities, development work could not be completed. In this context, he added, a comprehensive strategy is being evolved to reinstate and reinitiate development work in all such sectors on priority basis so that worries of the allottees could be addressed.

Sheikh Anser Aziz said that development of the city is now in the hands of elected representatives; therefore, elected representatives of the area have been tasked to play their due role in addressing the genuine problems of the respective areas. He said that due to delay in development activities in these sectors the cost of the development has also escalated; however, no further delay in the matter in this regard would be tolerated.

The chairman CDA directed the director sectors development and other officers to complete the drainage and sewerage system work and streetlight installation at the earliest. He directed the environment wing to establish five parks, carry out landscaping on the median strips and areas along the roads and plant shady trees along all major roads of sector D-12.

He directed the director sector development to coordinate with deputy mayors of Islamabad for vacating possession from acquired land to complete development work without any hindrance. He further directed to ensure availability of funds for the project and any issue in this context would be brought into his knowledge as delay in development work of sector E-12 and D-12 has badly affected the reputation of the authority. He said that concrete measures would be taken to regain the confidence of general public in the authority.

On this occasion, the chairman CDA was apprised that basic amenities including electricity, gas and water have been provided in most areas of the sectors; however, minor issues are being faced in a few areas of the sector and efforts are being made to resolve them.

Sheikh Anser Aziz directed to ensure provision of all civic amenities in all areas of the sector and no laxity in this context will be tolerated. He said that he will again visit the sector D-12 after two weeks time and will review the progress of development work.
