LAHORE - The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) is planning to set up a National Biotechnology Park to produce vaccines and drugs currently being imported to control the disease burden in livestock poultry and human beings, which is consuming huge national exchequer. This was stated by UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz while speaking in meting held under the public private partnership with pharmaceutical industry businessmen and academia on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz and attended by Chief Executive Feroz sons Private Ltd Dr Usman Khalid Chief Executive Invitro Vogue (IV) Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik Chief Executive Pharmagen Ltd and others. Commenting on the importance of Biotechnology Park UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz stated that Pakistan could save annually $ 6million poultry imported vaccine due to manufacture biotechnology products. He elaborated that UVAS in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) is organising two-day National Exhibition of Science and Technology on Biotechnology-2010 on 20-21st October. Conference University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology is holding a national conference titled Animal Forensics: DNA fingerprinting on 21 September 2010, said spokesman of the Varsity on Wednesday. The purpose of the national moot is to promote the involvement of modern forensic sciences in our society and provide a better understanding to the related issues.
