SIALKOT - The journalists, political figures, lawyers and business tycoons jointly declared Majid Nizami as “legend of journalism”, having a university of journalism in his personality on his golden jubilee here on Monday.

They paid glowing tribute to the journalism icon Majid Nizami during a special ceremony held at Sialkot Press Club to acknowledge the meritorious service of Editor-in-Chief of Nawa-i-Waqt Group of Newspapers. A large number of known personalities, students and citizens from all walks of life attended the ceremony. They saluted Majid Nizami in recognition of his journalistic calibre. They said that every word written by him had a history of lifelong struggle, glazed with the movement of Pakistan and protection of Pakistan Ideology.

A cake was cut on the occasion, amid tremendous applause from scores of participants who had turned up to pay their respect to Majid Nizami. Senior journalist Hamid Ali Khan (Correspondent of Daily Nawa-I-Waqt Lahore) presided over the ceremony while Humayun Iqbal Malik (Chairman Sialkot Press Club) who was the chief guest addressed the audience.

The speakers shed light on different aspects of his professional and public life, noting that he was now considered an academy in his own person, which has not only inspired a large class of professionals but also created a media empire. A truly patriotic and true Pakistani, they congratulated him for a lifetime of hard work and for tutoring his daughter, Ms Rameeza Nizami, considered a continuation of him at the Nawa-I-Waqt Group.

Addressing the participants, PML-N Sialkot President Ch Muhammad Ikram said, “Majid Nizami is actively guarding the ideology of Pakistan and has been the most tormenting factor for enemies of Pakistan. Speaking at the ceremony, Humayun Iqbal Malik paid rich tribute to him by saying that the veteran journalist completed 50 years of editorship with courage and bravery, upholding true values of journalism.

The co-chief guest, Hamid Ali Khan also said he is the member of the caravan that created Pakistan and now he is defending the country’s ideology.

He disclosed that he found Majid Nizami a witty person despite his serious posture in public.

As far as the matter of his editorship is concerned, he added, Nizami is an undisputed great editor of the country. Muhammad Jehangir Bajwa quoted Majid Nizami as saying that Pakistanis could live their life by depending on lamps but they would not be beholden to electricity from India the senior journalists Mian Naeem Iqbal (Correspondent of Waqt News TV), Ch Sarmad Mehmood, Ch Muhammad Safdar, Zahid Ali Khan, Dr Arshad Ehsan Elahi, Haji Naseem ul Hassan, Press Club General Secretary Dr Shamas Javaid said that Nizami never adopted journalism as business but took it as mission. His commitment with Islam was above suspicion and his stature was higher than that of a President of Pakistan.

They said that he through his pen has kept the Kashmir issue part of the foreign policy of Pakistan. They said that Nawa-i-Waqt was the only newspaper which has taken freedom of the press as a mission.

Zahid Ali Khan said that Majid Nizami was a true follower of Iqbal and Iqbal was follower of Maulana Room. Now he has entrusted his mission to his daughter Rameeza Nizami. Earlier, the cabinets of Sialkot Press Club and Sialkot Electronic Media Association congratulated Majid Nizami and both of the Cabinets lauded his services of for the freedom of press.
