LAKKI MARWAT - District Police Officer Umar Riaz presided over a high level meeting at his office on Thursday with regard to review security arrangements on the occasions of Chand Raat and Eidul Fitr.

Lakki Marwat and Naurang SDPOs Bashar Khan and Sanaullah Khan, station house officers of all police stations and other subordinate police officials attended the meeting. An official said that the meeting decided to cancel Eid holidays of policemen as part of plan to ensure foolproof security on the occasion of religious festival. “Under the plan cops in plain clothes will be deployed at public places and in bazaars to keep a vigil on ant-social elements”, he maintained.

He said that Elite Force commandos and personnel of Frontier Reserve Police would assist the district police force in maintaining complete peace, tranquility and harmony in the district during the days of Eidul Fitar.

He added that clear-cut instructions had been issued to the policemen posted at border check posts to thoroughly search vehicles entering the district. The official said that a comprehensive strategy had been chalked out to curb display of weapons, aerial firing and launching firecrackers.

DPO Umar Riaz directed that foolproof security arrangement should be made on the occasion of Eidul Fitar and police force should be fully alert to maintain law and order and protect the lives and properties of citizens. He said that additional police cops should be deployed in busy markets, bazaars and other public places besides patrolling in the entire district should be enhanced.

He also directed that a foolproof security should be ensured for mosques and Eid congregations. Riaz said that strict vigilance of entrance and exit points of the district should also be ensured, directing the subordinate police officers and SHOs to keep an eye on the movements of suspects and anti social elements.

He made it clear that those challenging the writ of law or indulging into the practices of making aerial firing, displaying weapons and launching firecrackers would spend their Eid days behind the bars.

Meanwhile, accelerating their drive against firecrackers users keeping in view the nearing Eid, police seized a huge consignment of firecrackers and explosive material from a delivery godown in Naurang Town and arrested the clerk of the facility.    

“On the instructions of DPO Umar Riaz a special campaign is underway against those elements who are involved in the business of selling firecrackers”, said an official. He said that the campaign against aerial firing and firecrackers’ selling had been launched to avert happening of any untoward incident on Chand Raat and Eid days.

Official said that a police party of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station headed by SHO Zenatullah Khan raided over the godown and recovered huge quantity of firecrackers and explosives from there.

“The seizure items included 6840 packets of firecrackers, 4120 toy bombs and other explosive material”, he maintained, saying that the consignment booked from Lahore was to be delivered to the traders in Naurang town. 

He said that police arrested the clerk of godown and launched a hunt to arrest the remaining culprits after registration of case against them under relevant section of law.
