ISLAMABAD -The launching ceremony of second Fast Attack Craft (FAC) (Missile) PNS Dehshat was held at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW), where Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Asif Sandila was the chief guest, Pakistan Navy said Thursday.

PNS Dehshat has been built in collaboration with China State Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company (CSOC) and Xingang Shipyard on the basis of Transfer of Technology (ToT). The first FAC, PNS Azmat, was designed and constructed by the CSOC and inducted in the PN Fleet in June 2012.

Speaking on the occasion, Admiral Sandila commended the timely completion of the project and termed it the manifestation of the indigenisation policy of the government, especially attaining self-reliance in defence capabilities. He applauded Karachi and Xingang shipyards, CSOC and Pakistan’s naval authorities associated with the project for, what he termed as, their relentless efforts and devotion in this connection. He lauded the defence co-operation between China and Pakistan and said construction of missile craft at Karachi Shipyard under ToT arrangements was another example of unparalleled Sino-Pak relations.

The admiral asserted that Pakistan’s geographical position and current dictates of geo-strategic environment necessitated a strong navy to defend its maritime interests. “Addition of these crafts to PN Fleet will further strengthen its offensive capability,” he added.

He reiterated that Pakistan Navy was cognisant of its role and no stone would be left unturned in maintaining maritime peace and stability in the region.

The naval chief also lauded the achievements of KS&EW in the field of shipbuilding and added that construction of missile craft was yet another step forward in achieving self-reliance and augmenting export potential in the field of defence production in maritime sector which became possible due to sound planning of the management and efforts of its workers.
