PESHAWAR - Sensing the security situation in Peshawar metropolis after the terrorist attack in Kamra, the police have beefed up security in Peshawar Cant and its adjacent areas, as extra troops have been deployed near all important installations.

Talking to media persons, Assistant Superintend of Police Cant Fesal Shehzad said that police and security forces have been directed to keep vigilant watch over the miscreant elements as militants may strike any government installation. He said that security of Peshawar Airbase, Air Force Headquarters, Cant area and all the sensitive locations have been put on high alert.  

The entry point of Saddar cantonment area has been closed for traffic and no vehicle is allowed to travel in the internal routes of Sadr Bazaar. The vehicle owners have been advised to use Shafi Market parking and other adjacent parking vicinities outside Sadr Bazaar.

The number of check posts on Bara road and Sirband area have been increased and while security forces and police and jointly checking each vehicle which leading towards the city area from Khyber Agency and Bara.

Keeping in view the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, extra police cops have been deployed in Sadr and Khyber Bazaar. In the last few days, militants have intensified their activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as a few days back a vehicle of Frontier Corps was targeted in Hayatabad area while several rockets had been fired to Shekhan area from Khyber Agency.

It is worth mentioning here that last night Taliban attackers attacked Kamra airbase and exchanged heavy firing with security forces.

Tahrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for last night attack, which resulted killing of nine militants and killing one personnel of security forces.
