KARACHI – Ten people, among them three women, were killed in the ongoing violence in the provincial metropolis on Thursday.

Bodies of two women were recovered from Sikandar Goth. Identified as Mumtaz 40, and thirty-year-old Naseem, wives of Ghulam Fareed, the victims went to a market for Eid shopping on Wednesday evening but did not return. Police officials quoted their spouse as saying that he had rivalry in the Punjab.

Another woman was strangled within the remit of the Saeedabad Police Station. Police officials said that body of Nusrat, wife of Jahangir, a resident of a slum in Saeedabad area, was recovered from her home. After autopsy at a hospital it was confirmed the woman had been strangulated to death. The officials further said that the victim had a dispute with her neighbours. Further investigation is in progress.

In a targeted attack within the ambit of the Garden Police Station, a police man was killed. Identified as Nasir Niazi, the victim, who had been stationed at the Crime Investigation Department, was on his way to the Central Police Office, when unidentified gunmen, riding a motorbike, targeted him. The victim’s brother had also been killed in a similar fashion a couple of months ago, police officials said, adding that the two brothers had a dispute with Lyari gangsters.

Separately, a bandit was killed when a robbery bid went awry within the precincts of the Saeedabad Police Station. As per reports, unidentified armed robbers got into a bus and starting looting valuables from passengers, when one of them managed to grab a pistol from a bandit and opened fire on them. As a result, one of the bandits and a seven-year-old girl, namely Shagufta, sustained bullet wounds and were rushed to a hospital, where the former succumbed to his injures. The body was moved to a morgue for identification. A case has been registered.

In a clash between rival groups of the Hazara community in Gulzar Colony, a passer-by was killed. The victim was identified as Noor Gull, a fruit vendor. The body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy. According to police officials, the two groups were fighting a pitched gun-battle over a personal row. The officials said that a case would be registered after the burial of the victim.  Separately, Kharader police found head of a man near Kakri Ground but could not recover the rest of the body.

Law enforcers said that residents of the area informed them about the head lying near a garbage dump. The head was moved to a morgue after autopsy at the Civil Hospital Karachi. The police officials suspected that Lyari gangsters might have killed and beheaded the man.

In Mansehra Colony, an unidentified bike-borne duo gunned down a man, namely Abdul Kareem 40. The victim was sitting at an electronics outlet when attacked. He was fatally hurt and was ferried to the JPMC, where doctors declared him as brought dead. The body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy. Officials of the Sharafi Goth Police Station suspected that the victim might have been killed over personal enmity. Formal investigation into the killing has been launched.

Separately, unidentified bandits mowed down a forty-year-old man within the jurisdiction of the Baldia Police Station. Identified as Banaras Yousaf, 40, the victim was on his way back home along with his son on a motorcycle, when a bike-borne duo of bandits intercepted his vehicle and opened fire on him for offering resistance. He received critical gunshot wounds and died while being ferried to a hospital.

In another robbery bid, unidentified bandits shot dead a fruit vender in New Preedy Street within the remit of the Brigade Police Station. Police officials said Feroz Ameer was sitting near his fruit stall, when unidentified gunmen appeared on the scene and opened fire on him for offering resistance. Ameer died instantly while one Shokat Noor was also wounded. The attackers fled, however. A case has been registered against the unidentified killers.
