LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered immediate suspension of Executive District Officer (EDO) Education, Dr Muhammad Arshad and action against other administrative officers for their failure to construct new school in place of the one demolished due to construction of Ring Road in Chachuwali Pind, Bedian Road or making alternative arrangements for the education of students. He also issued instructions for setting up a special committee comprising local people for identifying site for the new school within 48 hours on which construction work will be started within seven days. He further ordered temporary arrangements for the education of girl students till the construction of the school building. Taking strict notice of a report telecast on a TV channel regarding the serious problems being faced by students, especially girls, due to non-existence of primary school in Chachuwala Pind Bedian Road, the CM personally visited the village to ascertain the facts. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Commissioner and Distinct Coordination Officer Lahore and Secretary Schools were also present on the occasion. The CM inquired from the local people about the school who informed him that after the demolition of primary school due to Ring Road they contacted EDO Education on a number of occasions for making alternative arrangements as the girl students had to travel four to five kms to Ludhar village for education but the officer concerned paid no attention to their request. Shahbaz said that it was highly lamentable that in spite of the demand of the local population, the officer concerned had taken no action for the construction of new school nor made temporary arrangements for the education of girl students due to which students were forced to study under the open sky. He said that had there been a problem of school for the children of the elite, the school building would had been raised overnight but no attention was paid to the problem of the children of the common man. He said that this attitude of bureaucracy was a big hurdle in the national development as it preferred to sit in offices instead of resolving problems of the masses. He said that provision of modern education to the young generation was the top priority of the government and revolutionary measures were being taken for this purpose. He said that Education Department officers showed criminal negligence regarding the construction of the school for boy and girl students in Chachuwala Pind or making alternative arrangements in a rented building due to which action had been taken against them. Besides suspension of EDO Education the Chief Minister also reprimanded senior officers present on the occasion and ordered immediate identification of the site for the new school in the village and initiating construction work.
