ISLAMABAD - After four-hour struggle, the firefighters successfully controlled the fire erupted in Beverley Centre situated here at Blue Area on late Sunday night. Soon after the incident, fire tenders rushed towards the spot and tried to extinguish the blazing fire, police said. Additional Director Emergency and Disaster Management, Zafar Iqbal, while talking to The Nation said that 175 firefighters with the help of 24 fire tenders and 12 water tankers managed to control fire after a struggle of four hours. He said that two floors of Beverley Centre - 4th and 5th - were burnt completely, however due to timely action of the firefighters, the other floors were saved. He added that there was no danger of buildings collapse. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Mohammad Ali, talking to this scribe said that no casualty was reported in the incident. He added that due to Sunday, all shops in the plaza were closed. He said that all rescue and disaster control related organisations in the twin cities were mobilised. It would be too early to say how much property loss has been occurred, he added. It is worth mentioning here that district administration, fire brigade and police authorities were present there to command the fire fighting operation but lack of coordination among them was observed. Clothing, garments, electronic, mobile phones shops and private offices are situated in Baverly Centre. It is feared that the fire caused losses worth million of rupees. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
