LAHORE DIG Punjab Highway Patrol Sohail Khan said PHP had rendered helps to 2.3 million travellers in various problems on highways in 2010. Due to effective patrolling the crime rate had been reduced to just 14 per cent in 120 Km long jurisdiction. PHP also had handed over 540 abducted and lost children to the parents besides removing 28,400 encroachments from the roads, he added. He said PHP had recovered stolen wood worth Rs 98,76,000, 45 precious mobile sets, 95 tonne wheat, Rs 16,40,000 cash, computers worth Rs 17,00,000, five stolen trucks, 10 cars, 35 motorcycles and 2 tractor trolleys, 4.7 tonne charas and 7 bags full of explosive material. While in 5 cases out of 6, kidnapped persons were also recovered after hot pursuit. DIG further said there were 30 encounters with criminals and 100 proclaimed offenders were also nabbed. During traffic management on 940 Km long twelve stretches, 95 thousand fine tickets worth of 20.6m were imposed on violators.
