KARACHI  - The Chinese Electric Power Construction Corporation – SEPCO, by making joint development agreement (JDA) with Oracle Power Company, has formally joined in investment process in Thar coal power project.

The British oriented Oracle Power Company is already engaged in execution of a coal based power project aimed to generate 600MW in Block 6. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah while talking to the chairman SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation China Liu Chaunming, who called on him along with his delegation at CM House Thursday, said that all facilities and incentives would be provided to his organization for execution and completion of its task of power generation. Secretary Energy Agha wasif Abbas, Managing Director Thar Coal and the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sindh were also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister Sindh said that Sindh has great potential of power generation by virtue of its coal reserves and wind corridor, and added that sooner or later, the Sindh province would be hub of power generation.

Chief Minister was of the view that SEPCO would not feel any difficulty as all ground work is almost completed. He advised the delegation to start their work as soon as possible. Chairman SEPCO and other senior members of the delegation were of the view that within a week time they will go for Joint Development Agreement with its partner Oracle Power Company and by the end of June 2014, they will achieve financial close and start development work.

They said that SEPCO has experience to produce 93000MW. They said that they consider the coal an economically viable source for power generation and hopefully the power project in which they are going to take part would be completed within timeframe.
