MIRPUR (AJK) - The 15th death anniversary of a worker of Pakistan and Kashmir freedom movements was observed in Azad Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday.

People from various walks of life visited the grave of Abdul Hamid Nizami in Sialkot and placed floral wreath there besides praying for rest of the departed soul in eternal peace. Fateh Khawani was held for the departed soul in a ceremony held in Mipur. Speakers on the occasion paid rich tributes to Abdul Hamid Nizami for his services for the Pakistan and Kashmir freedom movement before and after the independence of Pakistan and for the promotion of healthy journalism.

Late Abdul Hamid was the News Editor of “Sada-e-Kashmir” Radio in occupied Kashmir in 1947 meant for the promotion of the Pakistan movement as well as the Kashmiris’ struggle for freedom.

In 1947, he was arrested from Sheirgarhi in occupied Srinagar by the then Dogra rulers and put behind bars over working for the Pakistan Movement.

Later on he was released in 1949 as a result of the pact signed for the exchange of political prisoners and was sent to Pakistan.
