LAHORE - Demanding restoration of Faisalabad Industrial Zone project, PML-Q Punjab President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has claimed that provincial government’s plan to take up Sheikhupura Industrial Zone venture will prove waste of precious land and billions of rupees.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Thursday, Pervaiz said, “Instead of wasting precious land and billions of rupees on Sheikhupura Industrial Zone, Punjab chief minister should restore Faisalabad Industrial Estate.”  He said Faisalabad Industrial Estate was established over 4,500 acres of land on M-3 near dry port and industrial units could start working immediately as 99 percent infrastructure work had already been done there. He said hundreds of plots were available to local and foreign investors.

PML-Q provincial president claimed that land had not yet been acquired for Sheikhupura Industrial Zone and the chief minister was saying that applications had been received for 90 percent of land. Ch Parvaiz Elahi said looters had come even before the city was established.

He said plaques of his name could be removed from the projects of public welfare during his tenure but national wealth should not be wasted on one man’s visionless ambitions.

Pervaiz maintained that PML-Q had formulated comprehensive policy in Punjab under a vision and thinking for establishing industrial estates at divisional and district level in the province.

He said Punjab was an agricultural province, however, the incumbent rulers were bent upon destroying agriculture by acquiring hundreds of acres of cultivated land for the industrial zone.

PML-Q provincial president said Rs 32 billion subsidy was already being given on Metro Bus annually, while the provincial rulers now going to waste Rs 50 billion on water ways transport.

He, while saying that the province the PML-Q government left with surplus budget was now under heavy debt of Rs 500 billion.

Pervaiz claimed that Punjab had been put on sale under the cover of privatisation, as about 1,150 government properties of worth Rs 11 billion had been sold to ruling party’s cronies for just Rs 8 billion.

PML-Q senior leader and former deputy prime minister Ch Parvaiz Elahi said investment could not come merely by signing record number of MOUs. He said investors were not coming to Punjab due to government’s faulty policies. Pervaiz said how could investors trust the rulers who were unable to provide electricity and gas to the houses. “The chief minister who has been leading the protest demonstrations over electricity and gas outages in the recent pass is hiding his face today from the industrialists,” he went on saying.

PML-Q Punjab General Secretary Ch Zaheeruddin Khan and Senior Vice-President Muhammad Basharat Raja were also present at the press conference.  He said his government had formulated comprehensive policy in Punjab under a vision and thinking so that industrial estates could be established at divisional and district levels in the province. “Our govt had left behind grand industrial infrastructure by establishing export processing zones in Gujranwala which were to be upgraded with the passage of time but it was destroyed in six years,” he said.

He said funds were allocated in Punjab budget for six years for power generation but the units could not be established.

“Where did this amount disappear?” he asked. In reply to a question, he said the waters ways were being surveyed for running transport on Ravi and canals. “Why do they talk which could not be comprehended at all,” he said.
