LAHORE  - Another convicted terrorist, Ikram-ul-Haq alias Akram Lahori, will be hanged in the Kot Lakhpat jail on Saturday (today) morning as arrangements are finalized to carry out the execution, jail authorities said on Friday.

The Kot Lakhpat Jail authorities have received “death warrants” of Ikram-ul-Haq alias Lahori who will be hanged on January 17.  Last week, hanging of the convicted terrorist was delayed after victim’s family pardoned the convict minutes before his execution in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Official sources said that Lahori is scheduled to be hanged at 6am on Saturday (today).  Lahori was put on death row for involvement in sectarian killings including a Shorkot resident in 2002.

On Thursday morning, a death row prisoner was hanged to death in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail as execution of condemned prisoners continue since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted a six-year moratorium on hangings.

Heavy police contingents and paramilitary troops are deployed around the prisons across the Punjab province amid security threats.

Since the ban on capital punishment was lifted on December 17, at least 18 condemned prisoners have been hanged across the country.

The federal government decided to lift the moratorium on executions a day after the deadliest assault on Army Public School in Peshawar, which left more than 140 people dead, mostly schoolchildren.
