LAHORE  - Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf has said that both the investigation and operation wings of the police would have to work together to downgrade crimes rate in the provincial metropolis.

He further directed the policemen to intensify crackdown against the criminals involved in robberies, kidnapping for ransom, and extortion by implementing a comprehensive crime-fighting strategy.

The DIG stated this while addressing a joint crime-control meeting of the investigation and operation wings of the Cantonment police division held at the Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Friday. SSP (Investigation) Rana Ayyaz Saleem and divisional SPs were also present on this occasion.

The operation police chief also reviewed in-detail the crimes and law and order situation in the cantonment police division. On this occasion, Dr Haider Ashraf admonished DSPs of Barki and Sarwar Road circles and also issued show-cause notices to three station house officers over poor performance.

The DIG also warned the field officers that the incidents of robbery-cum-murder would not be tolerated in the future and the police would have to take effective measures to stop such heinous crimes. The police would conduct raids in the limits of their respective police stations on daily basis and the progress report would be sent to the senior officers.

DIG Haider Ashraf also said that if any SHO would register bogus cases of narcotics to show ‘good work’, the department would initiate legal action against him. Similarly, the policemen found involved in using delaying tactics in registration of crimes or converting the nature of the crimes would not be spared.

The DIG also ordered the officers to deploy additional police force on the route of Dosti Bus Service and Samjhota express to thwart the nefarious designs of the anti-state elements. The field officers were also given special tasks regarding the arrest of proclaimed offenders and court-absconders on weekly basis.
