ISLAMABAD Shakeel Ahmad Turabi, father of missing student Hassan Sharjeel, 17, claimed before the Supreme Court on Wednesday that his son was in the confinement of secret agencies, while Inspector General Islamabad Kaleem Imam apprised the apex court that secret agencies had been contacted in this connection. The IG submitted that a larger investigation team comprising officials of secret agencies (ISI, FIA and other such departments) was under consideration to probe into the matter and if the court directed, it would start its work accordingly. The Chief Justice rejecting all excuses made by the police department directed them to produce the missing student. A three-member bench of the apex court gave three weeks time to Capital Police to produce Hassan before the court. Hassans father told the court that one of serving brigadiers threatened him of dire consequences. More than 100 suo moto notices from Chief Justice of Pakistan have no significance for us, he claimed that the Brigadier had said this. Responding to the court queries, Turabi held, I have great respect for this country, Armed Forces and its institutions but the role of secret agencies is earning bad name for our reputed institutions. If my son is involved in heinous crime, his fair trial should be initiated. He said when secret agencies had beaten severely his missing boy due to his active struggle against the military dictator Pervez Musharraf, three countries including USA offered him refuge with his entire family in their countries but he had turned down their offer, saying that he would never leave his country and would struggle for the uplift of its institutions. They had informed the Court that he was close to those involved in attack at Parade Lane on December 5, 2009. More than 53 persons lost their lives and 100 wounded in this tragic incident. It was sad incident for whole of the country and investigators started the search of criminals soon after the incident. As the law enforcers started hunt for the perpetrators of this heinous crime, Sharjeel Turabi s/o Shakee Turabi left his house and disappeared. He is still missing and it is strong perception that whether he is in Waziristan or moved to some foreign country, the police informed the court. Kaleem Imam had told the apex court that Sharjeel was not in the custody of police or any other agency, while the perpetrators involved in the heinous crime of attack at Parade Lane had been arrested.
