I saw a car sticker on a huge SUV the other day that read As a matter of fact, I do own the road. Humour aside, this is a bitter reality of our cities today. It is especially true of western diplomats and US citizens who can hit and run, even kill anyone on roads of the capital with impunity and get away with it due to just a phone call from high ups of the Ministry of Interior or Foreign Office. Can this sort of thing ever happen if a Pakistani, or for that matter any foreign national, hits a motorist or a pedestrian on a road in the US? No way The law is served no matter what. Why are their diplomats above the law in our country? -DR. SHAHID QAYYUM, Lahore, June 14.
