LAHORE The Pakistan Hockey Federation has decided to exclude all the officials attached with the 2010 World Cup losing team from the decision making committees of the federation for one year. The PHF decision came after former chief selector Hassan Sardar and several other former players snubbed the PHF by refusing to take the job of the teams manager. Interestingly, the PHF took the decision in the executive board meeting to keep the team management of the 2010 World Cup losing team and all those officials attached with the team away from any committee for at least one year. But PHF secretary Asif Bajwa, who was manager of the team which finished 12th in the New Delhis World Cup, would be part of every committee the PHF constitutes because he is holding one of the major offices in the PHF. However, some of the hockey critics believe that Bajwa should also be sidelined from such committees and the PHF president should take his place instead. Hasan Sardar resigned as the chief selector of the PHF after the team gave its worst ever performance in the games history in the World Cup. The PHF in turn removed all the officials of the selection committee and the team management in response to widespread criticism from former Olympians. The PHF took the decision in the executive board meeting on Wednesday. The meeting also finalised the name of the coach of the team but it did not reveal the name of the foreign coach it has decided to appoint till the final approval of the Sports Ministry and the Pakistan Sports Board which is the main financier of his appointment. Later, talking to the media, an official of the PHF said that PHF president Qasim Zia and secretary Asif Bajwa will be meeting the sports board officials in Islamabad to finalise the modalities of the appointment of the coach. He said that the PHF could not reveal his name as yet because they wanted to get the PSBs approval first. He said: The Executive Board of the PHF has given the approval to appoint the foreign coach for the team. The final decision will be taken by the Federal Ministry of Sports. In this regard, President PHF Qasim Zia and Secretary Muhammad Asif Bajwa will meet Federal Minister for Sports Ejaz Hussain Jakhrani and give the briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, he added. According to the Secretary PHF Asif Bajwa, the executive board gave the approval to order 10,000 hockey sticks for schools and clubs. The executive board also gave the approval to allocate funds for the provincial hockey associations. President PHF Qasim Zia presided over the meeting, while the other present members were Vice Presidents Saeed Khan, Wasay Jalil, lady Vice President Barrister Shahida Jamil, Secretary General Muhammad Asif Bajwa, Associate Secretary Rana Mujahid Ali, provincial secretaries Rana Mujahid (Punjab), Syed Zahir Shah (Khyber PK), Rao Saleem (Sindh), Farooq Ahmad (Balochistan), President PHF Womens Wing Khushbakht Shujat, Technocrats/experts Olympian Manzoor Jr, Col (r) Zafar Ahmad Zafri and Collector Customs Preventive Fateh Muhammad.
