LAHORE The Punjab government has stressed upon the federal government to avoid any further delay in the import of 1.2 million metric ton sugar. Expressing concern of the provincial govt in a letter sent to the Centre in this regard, it had been stated that keeping in view the demand and supply of sugar in the open market, if any further delay was caused in the import of sugar, its price was likely to increase which would badly effect the consumers. It has further been stated in the letter that people had perception that the import of sugar had been delayed to avoid decrease in the prices of sugar. There is rising trend in sugar prices at present; therefore, the import process of sugar be completed a month ahead to Ramzan-ul-Mubarak",added the letter. and by the end of June 2010 and the Punjab government may also be kept informed of the progress of the matter, added the letter.
