Rawalpindi - The assistant commissioners of Saddar and Cantonment areas, who have the additional charge of a price magistrate, visited various bazaars yesterday and fined the shopkeepers who were involved in overcharging or selling substandard edibles.

The ACs imposed almost Rs 50,000 fine on shopkeepers while 10 traders were arrested. According to details, AC Saddar Tasnim Ali Khan visited bazaars and markets on Adiala and Chakri Roads and checked the price lists and standard of items. During the checking, the AC found six shopkeepers involved in profiting and overcharging.

Taking action, Tasnim got registered cases against them with Police Station Bairooni while police also arrested the profiteers. Similarly, the AC imposed Rs 50,000 as fine on several shopkeepers for not displaying rate list at some visible place in their shops. On the other hand, AC Cantonment Dr Sitaish also paid a visit to bazaars located on Misrial and Peshawar Roads and took action against four shopkeepers on charges of selling basic need items at high rates.

The AC warned the traders and shopkeepers that if they continue to overcharge, their shops would be sealed.
