ISLAMABAD : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (Retd) Sardar Raza Khan yesterday suspended notified schedule for bye-elections on five vacant seats, including two National Assembly and three provincial assemblies constituencies till composition of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

A notification issued by ECP Director General (elections) on Thursday said that the CEC has suspended the operation of the schedules for bye-elections in the five constituencies, including two National Assembly seats and three provincial assemblies’ seats till appointment of ECP’s new members as per  Article 21892)(B) of the constitution.

The notified schedule of the bye-elections for the constituencies included PS-127 Karachi-XXXIX, NA-63 Jhelum-11, PP-232 Vehari-1, PP-240 F.G Khan-1 and NA-162 Sahiwal-111.

Under the 22nd constitutional amendment passed last month, the government has yet to start process of appointing new members from the four provinces.
