islamabad: A local court yesterday granted interim bail to Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam (Fazl) Senator Hafiz Hamdullah in a case related to verbally assault on women rights activist Marvi Sirmed in a TV talk show.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mehmood Khan conducted hearing of bail plea of Hafiz Hamdullah and granted him interim bail till June 23.

The senator approached the court and filed a bail petition while pleading not guilty in the said case.

The court granted him bail and directed Hamdullah to submit a surety bond worth of Rs 30,000.–Staff Reporter

 while the judge also directed the police officials of Kohsar police station to appear before the court and submit the record on the next hearing in this matter.

The federal police have registered a case under sections 354 and 506 against Hamdullah for allegedly threatening and manhandling Marvi in a television show. A fiery exchange of arguments took place between Marvi and Hamdullah during the recording of a programme which was recorded to be aired on a private news channel.

In her application to police, Marvi accused Hamdullah of abusing her with “worst possible expletives” during a TV programme regarding honour killings aired on June 10.
