LAHORE - A man strangled his wife to death before attempting suicide by slashing his body with a blade in North Cantonment, police said Friday. The resident of Nadirabad, Muhammad Sharif, was hospitalized in critical condition.

The family told the police that Sharif murdered the mother of three on the suspicion of having illicit relations. The man exchanged harsh words with his wife, got infuriated, and strangled his wife, Goshi Bibi, at his house on early Friday.

Later, he attempted suicide by cutting his body parts with a blade. His next-door neighbours contacted the police by phone after listening to the hue and cry of the woman. Police reached the spot and removed the body to the morgue for autopsy.


A collegegirl committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills at her house in Raiwind. Police said on Friday that Mahwish was rushed to the Jinnah hospital in serious condition where she died.

The family told the police that Mahwish took poisonous pills. Police are yet to determine why she committed suicide. The body was handed over to the family without autopsy.


Police have registered a case against the owner of Lucky-Irani Circus for thrashing a warden at a traffic signal in Gulberg on Friday.

Police said that Amjad Ali Farzand severely thrashed police official Tahir Sindhu after he was stopped for violating a traffic signal at Hussain Chowk. The man fled after beating the warden. The Gulberg police have registered the case and are investigating.
