Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday said that he cannot comment on the nature or target of the Quaidabad blast till the completion of the investigation.

“Two people were killed, while 12 others were injured in the blast and one is said to be in critical condition,” the CM confirmed, while talking to the media here in Karachi.

“Investigation into the incident was underway to know the intensity, nature and target of the blast. Till the investigation is complete we cannot say anything,” Shah said. He termed the attack an attempt to disturb peace and harmony of the metropolis, adding that the perpetrators would be put behind the bars soon.

An explosion that took place on Friday under the Quaidabad flyover in Malir district of Karachi, claimed lives of at least two people while several others sustained wounds.

According to the local police, the blast took place in a heap of used clothes placed beneath the bridge injuring around a dozen people. The blast, which was heard far away, caused panic in the locality. A large number of policemen had reached the blast site and cordoned it off for security reasons.

Following the incident, power supply was also suspended to the area. According to sources, the team of investigators had arrived at the blast site on Friday night and collected evidence to determine the cause and nature of the blast.
