Admiral M Asif Sandila, Chief of Naval Staff, called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani here in Islamabad on Monday at the Prime Minister House and expressed his thanks for reposing confidence in him, adding that he would spare no effort to come up to the expectations of the nation in the defense of the country. The Prime Minister said that his government would continue to extend all possible support to beef up the defense capabilities of the Pakistan Navy. The Prime Minister asked the Naval Chief to continue the policy of induction of lady officers and sailors in the Navy because his government did not believe in gender discrimination and was committed to mainstream them in the nation building endeavors. The Prime Minister also gave the direction to the Naval Chief to encourage the recruitment of Baloch youth in the Pakistan Navy on the pattern of Pakistan Army that had recruited about six thousand young people of the province, and he had the opportunity to address the very impressive passing out parade held recently in Quetta. The Prime Minister said that the Pakistan Navy should also open up recruitment centers, educational institutions and hospitals in the remote and less developed areas of the country especially in Balochistan, Sindh and Southern Punjab. The Prime Minister said that the completion of road between Gwader and Ratodero would provide connectivity between the port city and rest of the country which would give boost to the trade activities. It would also increase many times operational activities at the port. The Prime Minister said that democratic government was also building an international port at Gwader which would serve as a convenient aerial bridge between the port city and the country in particular and the rest of the world in general. The Prime Minister said that he had already issued instructions that all the activities relating to the import of fertilizer and export of wheat must be handled by the Gwader Port in order to use its potential and also prove its competitiveness so far as operational capabilities are concerned. The Prime Minister appreciated the relief efforts of the Pakistan Navy during the catastrophe caused by rains in the interior Sindh by dropping food bags in the areas cut off due to the stranded rain water. Their well planned operation at Sanghir, Tharparker and Mirpurkhas to save lives in the aftermath of unprecedented rains deserved appreciations of all of us, The Prime Minister said.
