RY KHAN: At least 27 people including the two drivers were killed and over 66 injured when two buses collided with each other on Khanpur Road in Rahim Yar Khan district near Sahja today morning.

The incident occurred when a speeding passenger bus collided head-on with another bus coming from the opposite direction near Dhareeja railway crossing in Khanpur.

One bus was travelling from Gujrat to Karachi while the other was bound for Lahore from the port city of Karachi.

Rescue sources had to cut out debris to extract survivors and the bodies. The injured were shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, where an emergency has been declared.

Some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the incident and directed the authorities to provide best medical facilities to the injured.

DCO Zafar Iqbal said the public has been requested to donate blood for the injured.

The bodies have been handed over to their respective families.
