SIALKOT -Speakers during an awareness walk painted a grim picture of malnutrition as 60 percent people in Pakistan are suffering from the deficiency disease as per .

A large number of people participated in the awareness-walk taken out here to commemorate the World Food Day. Led by ADCG Sialkot Dr. Umer Sher Chatta, the walk began from food department's offices on Railway Road and ended at Allama Iqbal Chowk after passing through the several main inter-city roads. The participants were carrying banners and placards. They pledged to make efforts to promote awareness about the better use of the balanced diet for the good and healthy life.

An officer said that early and smooth provision of preserved, pure and nutritious food is the basic right of the people. ADCG Umer Sher Chattha stated that the government has already established the District Food Authority to check adulteration in the food and everyday use commodities. They were ensuring the provision of adulteration-free and pure food to the masses. He said that the government has also provided special testing kits for the food inspectors to check the quality of the milk and adulteration.

He said that the government was also striving to overcome the menace of the shortage of the food in the country. He added that the pure and balanced diet could help avert several diseases that are caused by the unbalanced food.

Addressing the participants, District Food Controller (DFC) Sialkot Muhammad Rohail Butt disclosed that according to the fresh surveys conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO), 37 to 51 percent pregnant women in Pakistan have been suffering from blood shortage in their bodies.

He added that according to the 2013 nutrition survey, 60 percent people in Pakistan have been suffering from malnutrition.

TOURED BODIES OF WOMEN FOUND: Two women were tortured to death in separate incidents in Sialkot district as their bodies were found in canals here the other day.

Some unknown accused killed a woman after torturing her, and threw her body in a canal. Local people found her dead body in Marala-Ravi-Link (MR Link) Canal near village Kotli Bawa Faqeer Chand, Pasrur tehsil.

In Sambrial, some unknown accused shot dead an unknown young woman after throwing her dead body on the bank of Upper Chenab Canal (UCC) near village Kot Darraan, Sambrial tehsil.

OPEN COURT: Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Asif held an open court at PML-N House Paris Road Sialkot. He listened to the problems of the people and issued orders on various applications for urgent compliance to provide early relief to the perturbed people.
