ISLAMABAD -  Youngster Mehran Javed made biggest upset in the $25,000 12th Chief of the Naval Staff International Squash Championship 2016 as the junior player recorded highly upset 3-0 victory against Pakistan Asian Team Championship playing member Sh Saqib in the pre-qualifying round match played here at the Mushaf Squash Complex.

In addition to Pakistanis, professional players from Australia, Egypt, Jamaica, Jordon, Malaysia, Netherland, New Zealand, Wales and USA will also be seen in action in the mega event.

It was a shocking result and speaks volumes about Pakistan Squash Federation’s tall claims regarding working very hard on players. Until and unless a seasoned and highly professional coach is not hired by the federation on permanent basis more misery will continue to pile on.

There is a need to develop a players’ pool including the likes of Aamir Atlas, Nasir Iqbal, Danish Atlas, Farhan Mehboob and Farhan Zaman and support them fully. Otherwise Pakistani players would not be able to remain even in top 100 in the PSA rankings. PSF secretary Group Captain Amir Nawaz has pbeen proved a failure since he had taken the charge.

He snubbed even greats like Jansher Khan, who had on number of occasions requested PSF president o remove the secretary and senior vice president but no heed was paid. Personal likings and disliking have taken Pakistan squash to the brink and any further delays in getting rid of these officials would inflict huge damages, which would take years to repair. Aamir Atlas is luckily in Pakistan after spending almost two years in the USA. It is high time, the PSF president must interfere and invite not only Aamir but others too and address their genuine concerns for the betterment of the game.

The federation has also failed miserably to handle Nasir Iqbal case properly and the youngster is going though the worst period of his life as he is being punished for a crime he had never committed. But rather that helping the future of Pakistan, the federation had stopped even monthly meagre amount which was paid to him as central contract for the past several months.

What is the purpose of hiring an army of non-professional coaches and officials who just enjoy perks and privileges? Why a person like Muhamamd Yasin, a UK-based former player and coach who can’t even walk properly as he is too old, is hired for short term to coach Pakistani players? It is crystal clear the federation wanted to appease some certain individuals rather than thinking about the future of the game. Nasir should have been cleared from the baseless banned substance accusation levelled against him had federation handled the issue properly. Nasir is not suffering alone as it is Pakistan squash which is the ultimate loser and no one else but present PSF secretary is solely responsible for the entire episode.

It has never been heard before that a player is not allowed to practice and play in even exhibition matches for more than eight month. The PSA has failed to clear the matter and it is time that the PSF president must intervene as he is the only hope for the players.

It was a miserable afternoon for Saqib, who can’t even dream about losing to a junior player and that too in straight games.
