rawalpindi-Rawat police yesterday obtained transitory remand of four persons, including a woman, arrested in connection with stealing of human kidneys and other organs.

Duty judge Tauseef Ahmed granted police one day transitory remand of Zafar Iqbal, owner of plaza, Faqeer Hussain, driver of kidney stealing racket, Shehzad Qayyum alias Shani and Balqees Bibi to Rawat police after police lodged a case against kidney stealing gang under sections 365/342 of PPC and 9/10/11 Transplantation of Human Organ and Tissues Act 2010 on 15/10/2016. However, the judge awarded police one day physical remand of the accused and ordered them to produce the accused before relevant court for further proceeding. The court also asked the police to get recorded the statements of the recovered persons before the court under section 164 CrPc.

Meanwhile, police are still clueless about the ring leader Dr Zahid Iqbal, owner of Kidney Centre Hospital Morgah, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Dr Tauseef Ahmed, Dr Raja Mehmood, cashier Laeeq Ahmed and others who were involved in smuggling/stealing of human kidneys and other tissues.

According to details, a team of Rawat police produced the four accused before court of a duty magistrate and sought their physical remand.

Earlier, Rawat police swooped in basement of Al-Rehman Plaza located in a private housing society and held four members of kidney stealing gang besides recovering 24 detainees from there. A case was registered against the accused.

According to contents of FIR, registered with Police Station Rawat, one ASI Muhammad Yaqoob submitted a plaintiff mentioning he along with others were routine patrolling when a DFC Shehnaz Anjum provided information that one Zafar Iqbal along with doctors Zahid Iqbal, Mukhtar Ahmed, Tauseef Ahmed, Raja Mehmood of Kidney Centre Hospital, cashier Laeeq Ahmed, Shehzad Qayyum, Faqeer Hussain, Balqees Bibi and others are involved in enticing and kidnapping poor people from different parts of Punjab and detained them in the basement of the plaza aimed to steal their kidneys and other tissues.

The police party raided the plaza and recovered 20 men and four women who were detained in two rooms and were guarded by Shania and Balqees Bibi. Police also recovered injections and other surgical items during raid from the basement.

According to police, the other members of the gang, including Dr Zahid Iqbal, the ringleader, were still at large. CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, when contacted, confirmed the police raid at plaza and arrest of four members of gang involved in kidney stealing and smuggling.

He said the ringleader and other members managed escape while a special police team has been constituted under supervision of SP Saddar Circle Iftikhar ul Haq tasking it to arrest the fleeing gang members. He said the detainees were being grilled by Rawat police. To a query, he said police would make all-out efforts to net the culprits besides placing their names on the Exit Control List (ECL) if needed.
