RAWALPINDI  - A large number of police officials have constituted "gangs in civvies" in several police stations of the city and have been extorting money from innocent people by implicating them into fake cases and providing safe passage to criminals after receiving bribe.

Moreover, the daring police officials also make those cops part of their "gangs in civvies" who are either suspended or deputed in another police stations and they operate soon after sunset till dawn.

They patrol in their areas in civvies on motorbikes and a white car with a revolving light on it, arrest the innocent people in generally and criminals such as drug peddlers, pimps, dacoits, robbers and court absconders in particular; bring them to police station and later freed them after receiving bribe.

The gang members included Azhar-ul-Islam alias Sheikh Azhar (head), Malik Taseer Qadri, Asif Altaf, Ahsan and Raja Basharat of Gujar Khan. Interestingly, Raja Basharat is not posted in PS Saddar Berooni but has been in action in the area since long. A case was registered against Nisar by ASI Abdul Ghafoor and produced him before area magistrate Faisal Rasheed who granted Nisar bail against surety bonds of Rs 20,000. Police filed a case against Ishtiaq on account of having four bottles of liquor and sent him to jail.

ASI Mulazim Hussain, Sh Azhar and Asif Altaf, the constables, when contacted for their points of view, refused to talk while hurling threats of dire consequences at this scribe. Malik Taseer Qadri did not receive his cell phone when contacted.

When contacted, a Moherer of PS Saddar Berooni told TheNation that Raja Basharat was not posted in PS Saddar Berooni therefore his cell number was not available with police record.

SHO PS Saddar Berooni Chaudhry Asar, during a chat with this scribe, was even unaware whether Raja Basharat was his subordinate or not.

When the whole saga was shared with SHO, he simply replied, "I am out of police station and will check into the matter myself and will be able to speak after that".

CPO Abdul Razzaq Cheema and SP Saddar Circle Waheed-ur-Rehman Khattak did not attend the call of this scribe.
