RAWALPINDI - A local court on Saturday acquitted Khalid Jadoon, an accused in the Rimsha Masih blasphemy case.

District and Sessions Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan acquitted the prayer leader in the case in absence of ample proofs against him. The police had registered the case against the prayer leader Khalid Jadoon in the light of a statement of Hafiz Zubair, a witness in a case of blasphemy against Rimsha Masih.

In his statement, Hafiz Zubair alleged that Khalid Jadoon himself had included a page in the other burnt pages. Later, a trial court sent Khalid to jail on September 2, 2012.                      –SHAHID RAO

However, the court exonerated him in the case in the absence of evidences after the completion of trial of the case.

It is pertinent to mention here that Rimsha was accused of committing blasphemy in 2012 after a local cleric accused her of burning pages of the Holy Quran. The court had granted her bail and later blasphemy charges against her were dropped for want of evidence.

After the incident, Rimsha has left Pakistan and sought asylum in Canada.
