LAHORE - Former Director General of Punjab Health Department and Gujranwala NPT Vice President Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema on Saturday has expressed that they had worked day and night to combat dengue in Punjab, especially in Lahore. He was addressing “Anti Dengue Day.”

Speaking at Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehrik-i-Pakistan, Dr Nisar Cheema lauded the role of TheNation Editor-in-Chief Dr Majid Nizami for dissemination two nation ideology into the new generation. Dr Cheema also lauded the Punjab government for securing the people from dengue fever despite all the troubles. He said our nation has great potential to cop the dengue epidemic. The Diseases Early Warning System is providing us the opportunity to combat other diseases, Dr Cheema added.

He said there is need of an effective strategy to prevent the possible outbreak of dengue this year. He said the people have been imparting knowledge in various districts regarding preventive measures against dengue. He said workshops would be helpful for improving the capacity to adopt appropriate measures for early detection and control of communicable diseases according to the emerging needs. He also told the participants to take measures and approach a hospital in case they find any signs of the disease. He said the neighbouring country wanted to convert the dear homeland into Somalia by constructing dams on Pakistani rivers. Dr Ajmal Niazi, Begum Safia Ishaq, teachers, students and a large number of people from different walks of life attended the sitting.

walk today: The Sports Board of Punjab (SBP) is about to arrange an anti-dengue drive today (Sunday) in collaboration with the Punjab government. Sports and Youth Affairs DG Usman Anwar Saturday said, “Volunteers and scouts will provide security to the participants while refreshment stalls has also been set up along the walk route.” While speaking to the media at the National Hockey Stadium he said, “The corridors for male and female are separately designed to avoid any hustle and bustle.

The security has also been assured to get maximum participation in the walk which will help get rid of dengue curse while another purpose of the drive is to show solidarity with flood affectees and raise funds for them,” he added.–Staff Reporter
