Punjab Planning and Development Secretary Arif Anwar Baloch has said that war against dengue has not yet completely finished, while the efforts would continue until its complete eradication.

The August 18 is being observed as “anti-dengue day” with a determination that all segments of society would again step forward against dengue mosquitoes and ensure protection of human lives by utilizing all possible resources.

He said this while addressing the participants of the awareness walk to mark the Anti-Dengue Day organized by the Planning and Development Department, Government of the Punjab.

The walk led by Secretary P&D department Arif Anwar Baloch, started from Istanbol Chowk and concluded at P&D Building. Additional Secretary P&D Muhammad Taqi Qureshi included Sector Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Deputy Secretary (Admn) and a number of employees participated in the walk.

Secretary P&D Arif Baloch said that the Punjab Government had saved thousands of lives by taking timely steps during the last year and situation with regard to dengue virus was under control in Punjab as compared to last year due to effective bold steps taken by the Punjab government.  All segments of society would have to play their effective role against dengue virus to defeat it through collective efforts, he added.

Arif Baloch, during his discourse, stressed the need for concerted efforts to control dengue like deadly virus. He said that dengue was a social issue and hence every individual would have to play his role for controlling it at his home level and for this purpose special attention should also be paid on cleanliness. All those things should be destroyed which are making the cause of dengue breeding in houses and stagnant water should be drained out to check the breeding of dengue larva, he disclosed.

Punjab Planning and Development Department, launching an extensive drive to avert the spread of dengue mosquitoes, here on Sunday observed the dengue day at the P&D complex. All officers and their staff members ensured their presence in the offices and also participated in the grand cleanliness drive. During the cleanliness operation to eradicate dengue larva, a special squad of the P&D Department carried out the grand operation during office hours in the P&D Complex. The Secretary P&D Arif Baloch, Additional Secretary (Admn) Muhammad Taqi Qureshi, Deputy Secretary (Admn) Rafaqat Ali and other officials inspected the dark and store rooms, washrooms, parking stands of vehicles, open spaces in and around the P&D building. He monitored the entire operation. He, during his visit, appreciated the excellent arrangements for cleanliness in P&D complex made by sanitation staff. On the occasion, Secretary P&D directed the concerned officials of the department to take lead in monitoring cleanliness arrangements in their duty places. As part of the cleanliness campaign, the P&D Department also distributed handbills regarding awareness about precautions and safety measures against dengue mosquitoes among officers and other staff. Different sign boards and banners related to instructions for cleanliness were displayed at the main gate and all entry points of the P&D Complex by the administration. A documentary film on awareness campaign about the dengue virus was also watched in the committee room of P&D Department.
