WEST PALM BEACH - Three-time Grand Slam champion Jennifer Capriati faces a December 17 trial date in connection with an alleged battery case involving her ex-boyfriend. A Florida judge has set the trial date on Friday at a hearing that the 37-year-old, Capriati, did not attend, The Palm Beach Post newspaper reported in its Saturday’s edition. Capriati is accused of punching her former boyfriend at a gymnasium on Valentine’s Day this year. The former tennis great, however, has denied the accusations. Capriati was a force on the women tennis circuit who captured back-to-back Australian Open titles in 2001 and 2002 as well as a French Open crown in 2001, which also gave her number one ranking on WTA Tour. She won a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics defeating Steffi Graf in the final. –AFP
