LAHORE - Lahore men’s team lifted the Saif Sports Saga Open Men and Women Powerlifting Championship trophy scoring 42 points here at the Greens Banquet Hall Gulberg on Sunday. According to organising secretary Aqeel Javed Butt, Gujranwala secured the second position with 37 points while Lahore Gymkhana earned the third with 35 points. Faisalabad won fourth with 19 points while Rawalpindi was on fifth with 14 points. In the 59kg class, Liaqat Nayamat of Lahore bagged the gold medal while M Shahzad won silver and Ahsan Ali bronze. The 66kg class saw Ahmed of Gymkhana claiming goal, Faisal silver and M Arsalan of Gujranwala bronze. The 74kg class gold went to Umar Butt of Gujranwala, silver to Salman Aqeel Butt and bronze to Sufyan Lone. The 83kg class gold was won by Rameez Raja of Shapes, silver by Zeeshan Risat and bronze by Umer of Gymkhana. M Asif of Lahore won gold in 93kg while in 105kg class, M Saif of National Weightlifting Club and Lahore team captain won gold medal. The 120kg class gold went to M Ali of Gymkhana while 120plus gold went to M Hammad Khan of Gymkhana Club. Chairman Saif Sports Saiful Azam Khan, Saga Malik, Divisional Sports Officer Lahore Waqar Hussain and former Mr Asia powerlifter Ch Imran Khalid distributed trophies, medals, certificates and souvenirs among the players and officials. M Saif received the winner’s trophy. 

Army clinch National Jr Wrestling titleOUR STAFF REPORTERLAHORE - Army claimed the 7th National Junior Wrestling Championship trophy here at the Punjab College of Commerce on Sunday. All the teams played very well in the event but it was Army who played exceptionally well to score the title victory by grabbing the highest 72 points. Wapda earned second position with 70 points, Punjab got third with 61 points, HEC fourth with 58 points and KPK managed fifth position with 23 points. At the concluding ceremony, Pakistan Olympic Association chief coordinator M Khalid Mahmood was the chief guest and awarded the medals and trophy to the winners.
