TOBA TEK SINGH - Badshahi Masjid Lahore Khateeb Maulana Syed Abdul Khabeer Azad has termed the allegations that mosques and religious seminaries have been promoting terrorism are baseless and maligned.

He said that instead these institutions were imparting moral values and true Islamic teachings to the young generation and helping them become good citizens. “These allegations are part of a well-planned conspiracy to create misunderstanding among Muslims and keep them away from getting the real spirit of Islam.”

Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad was addressing a religious conference here at Jamia Masjid Osmania recently re-constructed in old courts complex here on Sunday.

He stressed that Muslims from schools of thoughts must develop harmony and understanding among themselves and be tolerant regarding their religious differences towards each others.

Others who also spoke on the occasion included Maulana Mufti Abdul Moeed Asad, Qari Muhammad Hanif Jallandhri, Maulana Zahid Qasmi, Maulana Masood Qasim Qasmi, TMA Administrator Malik Khadim Jeelani, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Dr Zahid Sattar and Maulana Dr Rafiq Anwar Chishti.

SIX PROMOTED: The District Education Department has promoted six junior clerks. EDO (Education) Syed Touqeer Hussain told here on Sunday that clerks Muhammad Jamil of Government Girls High School Kamalia, Abdul Qayyum of Government Girls High School Chak 367/JB (Gojra), Muhammad Luqman of Government High School Chak 301/JB (Gojra), Muhammad Ayub of Government Islamia Secondary School Toba and Muhammad Bakhsh of office of deputy DEO (women) (Gojra) have been directed to take charge against vacant vacancies in their education offices concerned.

Transporters fleecing passengers:  The district administration has failed to check the overcharging by transporters on Gojra-Jhang, Toba-Jhang, Faisalabad-Gojra and Gojra-Toba routes.

In a press communiqué issued here, Irrigation and Power Department Employees Union leader Allah Bakhsh Sial claimed that more than Rs70 were being charged from each passenger on the excuse that the CNG was not available and buses and wagons were being run on petrol.

He also stated that actual fare for all the said routes must be less than Rs40 but the transporters were fleecing the passengers with both hands. He demanded the DCO and Regional transport Authority secretary to take notice of “daylight robbery” and protects the rights of poor passengers.

Anti-dengue walk held: The Health Department organised a walk here in Gojra to create awareness against dengue on Sunday.

The walk was led by Deputy District Officer (Health) Dr Sh Muhammad Asghar while drug inspector Muhammad Saqib and District Health Nutrition Supervisor Umair Ahmad also participated in it.

The participants were carrying placards and banners, urging people to adopt precautionary measures to save themselves from the disease.
