KARACHI - The legal fraternity on Thursday staged protest demonstration and boycotted the courts on the first anniversary of the bomb blast on the lawyers' procession in Islamabad held for the restoration of deposed judges. On the call of Pakistan Bar Council, the lawyers observed complete boycott of the court proceedings and protested demanding the restoration of deposed judges. They were carrying placards and banners and chanted slogans against the government though the judges remained present in their chambers. They also set up a camp in front of the KBA office where two lawyers Waqar Shah and Jadoon observed token hunger strike. The lawyers were chanting slogans against President Musharraf and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and demanded the restoration judiciary to the pre-November 3 2007 status. They also demanded control over soaring prices and vowed to continue their struggle till achieving the targets. Meanwhile, a group of lawyers ransacked various courtrooms and forced the other people to stop working. They also pulled out the name-plates fixed at the courts and attacked a judge who received minor injury. Resultantly, various other judges left the courts. Similarly, the lawyers were also threatening oath commissioners, typists and others people across the city court. Meanwhile, a general body meeting of Karachi Bar Association held at Shuhda-i-Punjab Hall of the City Courts under the chair of KBA Secretary General Naeem Qureshi. President of KBA Mehmood-ul-Hassan, Secretary General Naeem Qureshi, Muzaffar Iqbal, Sallahuddin Gundapor, Mohammad Abbasi, Sallahuddin Ahmed, Khalid Memtaz, Mohammad Bakhsh Lashari, Tariq Khan Niazi, Mohammad Qadir, Mohammad Khan Abro and others addressed the meeting.   Speaking on the occasion, Naeem Qureshi criticised the visit of Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and said that none of lawyers participated in the dinner reception hosted in his honour at High Court on Thursday evening. He said that the lawyers would not accept him as CJP nor the judges who took oath under PCO. Mehmood-ul-Hassan said that the reception for CJP Abdul Hameed Dogar was organised by Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro and other lawyers who, showed their loyalty with the rulers adding that High Court Bar and Karachi Bar did not invite the CJ. Mohammad Khan Abro said the lawyers' fraternity would continue its struggle to fulfil the dream of their martyred leader Benazir Bhutto for the reinstatement of CJP Ifikhar Chaudhry.    Sallahuddin Gandapori said the democracy and the parliament have been restored by the struggle of the lawyers.   Mohammad Ali Abbasi said that they took part in the ongoing movement for the restoration of deposed judges, while they are still part of the movement. Later, a rally was organised on MA Jinnah Road, staged a protest there and blocked the road for several hours.
