KARACHI - Senior Vice President PML (N) Sindh Salim Zia has termed the Supreme Court decision exonerating Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in plane hijacking case as historic. Speaking at a news conference at the Karachi Press Club here on Friday, Salim Zia said that the apex court vindicated Mian Nawaz Sharif by declaring the Oct 12 step of General Pervez Musharraf and registration plane hijacking case as illegal and unconstitutional. He expressed gratitude to all the political and democratic forces who had launched struggle for independent judiciary and restoration of democracy in the country. He said that it was declared stance of PML (N) that it had no personal vendetta against Gen Pervez Musharraf but it was against the dictator who had hijacked the country by ousting the elected government of Mian Nawaz Sharif, trampled over the constitution and undermined the parliament and had put behind the bar political activists. Salim Zia said that today festival like situation was seen and people of Pakistan were eulogising the verdict of independent judiciary, offering the thanks giving prayers in every nook and corner of the country and distributing sweets. He said that todays verdict of apex court would prove a milestone in the history of the country and would have a far-reaching affect. He remembered slain Iqbal Raad, a member of the panel of advocates fighting the plane hijacking case of Nawaz Sharif, who was killed in cold blood. He also remembered late Eijaz Batalvi advocate and Aziz ullah Shaikh Advocate, who were the members of legal panel of Nawaz Sharif case and paid homage to them for their services. He hoped that the independent judiciary would continue to play its positive role in the prevailing circumstances of the country and provide succor to the people in petroleum case and other important matters such as missing persons and terrorism. Nihal Hashmi, a PML (N) leader and advocate of Nawaz Sharif in plane hijacking, hailed the Supreme Court decision and said that now time has come for the judiciary to hold trials of the real hijackers. He demanded that murder case of slain Iqbal Raad should be registered against General Pervez Musharraf on whose alleged behalf the advocate was killed in cold blood. He said that now the shackle of dictatorship has come to an end and the country has started the march toward civil society. Earlier, the Pakistan Muslim League (N) Sindh hailed the Supreme Court decision acquitting the party Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in plane hijacking case. PML (N) activists led by Senior Vice President Sindh Salim Zia and others gathered outside Karachi Press Club and distributed sweets to celebrate the apex courts decision. They danced on drumbeat and raised slogans in favour of Nawaz Sharif and independent judiciary.
