ISLAMABAD - The local administration on Tuesday constituted 17 price checking teams headed by the Sub-Divisional Magistrates with the direction to conduct price checking from today in order to curb the profiteering tendency prior to the advent of Ramadan.

A spokesman of the administration said that these teams would conduct price checking on daily basis during Ramadan with a view to provide relief to the consumers.

According to details, the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad held a meeting with the Sub-Divisional Magistrates as well as magistrates and reviewed the price checking mechanism being put in place from today (Wednesday).

He directed the price checking teams to kick off the anti-profiteering drive in capital territory and take stern action against the profiteers.

The administration has also directed the shopkeepers to display the rate list of food items failing which heavy fines would be imposed on the spot.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner issued the order of formation of 17 price-checking teams for the Ramadan which is coming into force with effect from today. According to the order, Islamabad Capital Territory has been divided into six sub-divisions for the purpose of strict price checking. Sub-divisions include City, Industrial Area, Saddar, Shalimar, Secretariat and Rural, each headed by the Sub-Division Magistrate, ICT.
