LAHORE – University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha has urged the students to hone their skills and apply their knowledge in the field for the uplift of farmer’s community.

He was addressing at the inaugural session of Summer Teaching Camp for the students of non-accredited institution on Tuesday.

Dr said that it was high time to learn more and more. “When you enter professional life, you find less time for learning,” he said.

He stressed that students should focus on their studies and overcome their educational shortcomings. “If you want to stay in veterinary profession, you need to do practical work, otherwise you would not be able to perform confidently” he added. 

The students from non-accredited institutions staged protest during the International Livestock and Poultry Congress held from March 13-14 at Awain-e-Iqbal.

They were launching massive protest campaign and boycott the classes. In such situation Higher Education Commission took notice and called a meeting non-accredited institutions’ heads through video conference. Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC), Livestock Dairy Development Department (L&DDD) and HEC decided that the DVM graduates would undergo three-month hands on training and pass an examination for the accreditation of their degrees with the PVMC.

The meeting called by PVMC president Dr Arshad on accreditation of faculties of veterinary sciences in various universities was held at UVAS on April 2.

The UVAS VC recommended for additional three-month course on those universities’ students that were passing out or near completion. While, the quality of education was correlated with hands on training so the purpose was to produce skilled human resource to cater the livestock industry’s needs.

Addressing Summer Teaching Camp, the UVAS VC said the purpose of the camp was to accommodate three non-accredited institutions’ students as they were facing trouble in finding jobs and improving their practical skills.

Almost 100 students from Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi and Islamia University Bahawalpur, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang, Lasbel University of Agriculture, Water Marine Sciences would get eight weeks educational training. The Summer Camp was arranged by HEC and Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council.
