ISLAMABAD (PR): PTCL held a Squash tournament for its employees at company’s officers Club.

In the Men’s Singles final, Arslan Aslam emerged as winner by defeating Asim Akhtar, while Uzma Ajmal clinched the women’s title by defeating Tasneem Akhtar. The veteran’s title went to Amir Hayat while Zia Ur Rehman remained the runner-up.

Seminar on education

LAHORE  (PR): Managing Director of Gohar Publishers Abuzar Ghaffari has said that his organisation, following the old tradition, has published new books for eighth class. He revealed this while addressing a seminar organised by Gohar Publishers which was largely attended by stakeholders including Altaf Hussain Gohar, Ghulam Yazdani, Sajjad Zaheer, Asim Mehboob, Kashif Hussain Gohar, Ejaz Qureshi, Ahmad Najeeb, Mohammad Javed, Ghayasud Din, Zahid Rashid, Sheikh Raza, Saleem and eminent publishers, writers and teachers. While addressing to the seminar, Abuzar Ghaffari said that Gohar Publishers, after publishing eighth class books of Mathematic, English, Science, History and Islamiyat with new curriculum, has marketed all books from class one to tenth and maintained insignia of providing latest books.

Abuzar Ghaffari further said that Punjab Government has been publishing modern syllabus books through competition amongst the private publishers from last few years and providing the students of all classes because these books have already established their credibility and reliability, he further added.

He appealed the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and high-ups of Education Department to allow students to study modern syllabus books of eighth class printed by private publishers instead of ten year old syllabus books of Punjab Text Book Board so that students could get guidance from books containing modern syllabus contents, he concluded.

Emirates launches new service to Boston

LAHORE (PR):Emirates, a global connector of people and places, launched its daily, non-stop service between Dubai and Boston today. Boston becomes the airline’s eighth US destination and the 142th on its global network which links key tourism and trading destinations across six continents.  The inaugural flight EK237 departed from Terminal 3, Dubai International at 09:45 hours, carrying a delegation of senior airline executives including: Tim Clark, President, Emirates Airline; Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Executive Vice President & Chief Operations Officer; Hubert Frach, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Commercial Operations West; and Hiran Perera, Emirates’ Senior Vice President Cargo Planning and Freighters. 

Conference on language and educational policies

LAHORE (PR): Richard Weyers, Director British Council, Punjab made the announcement about, launching a new programme Knowledge Exchange Partnership to promote collaboration between higher education institutes in the UK and Pakistan. He also stated that the aim of the programme was to create opportunities for higher education institutes to work in close collaboration with industry, business, the public sector and non government organizations. Mr Weyers was addressing the audience at Beaconhouse National University, School of Education’s one-day conference on “Language, Educational Policies and Practices”. 

Dr Nicholas Ostler, the renowned British linguist and author, was the key note speaker on the occasion.

Mr Shahid Hafiz Kardar, Vice Chancellor Beaconhouse National University stressed the need to understand the link between progress and education. He stated that sadly in Pakistan, education is considered a means of obtaining good employment, whereas the true purpose of education should be to empower, civilize and innovate.
